Sri Lanka, a teardrop island in the vast Indian Ocean; a country with
beautiful rich culture; a mixture of ancient and modern history and legendary
diverse natural beauty. Our choice of hotel is the delightful Tropical Villas
set in a quiet walled garden at Beruwela, a fishing village, in the island’s
south west. Long a favourite of ours for its charming staff, its tranquil
atmosphere and its gardens, the style of this medium class hotel is comfortable
and informal.
Our rather special holiday combines the relaxation of a stay in a quiet hotel
with excursions to introduce you to various aspects of Sri Lanka: from a visit
to a family home for ‘brunch’ Sri Lankan style, to birdwatching within the hotel
grounds and along a nearby beach. With its attractive air-conditioned bar
and lounge, where the background music is usually classical or light jazz, the
style is more akin to a house party than a hotel. The 54 rooms are in single or
2-storey units overlooking the tropical gardens or swimming pool. We think you
will find the rooms quite a surprise: they are large, split level with a seating
area for lounging during the day. Enjoy a refreshing dip in the inviting
swimming pool or simply relax with a cool drink at the poolside bar. A long
sandy beach is approx 400 metres away.
